Our 3 comprehension questions are:
  • Describe the process of forestry( equipment, people, each stage?)
We believe that the process of forestry is....
  1. Firstly the wood cutters cut down the trees.
  2. Second the wood cutters load the trees on to a logging truck.
  3. Thirdly the logging truck driver drives the trees (in the logging truck) to the mill.
  4. Next workers load the trees on to conveyer belts, the trees on the conveyer belt go through a machine that chops the trees in to long pieces of wood.
  5. The wood is then put back on another truck that is driven to a hardware store and from there you buy the wood.

  • What is the impact of deforestation on our environment ?
We believe that the impact that deforestation has on the environment is pollution, lack of food and lack of forestry.
  • What does the slash and burn method entail?
We believe that the burn and slash method is when you cut and burn forests or woodlands to create fields for livestock, and for a variety of other purposes.

Our 5 knowledge questions are:
  • What is deforestation?
We believe that deforestation is when people cut down trees and do not replant them. People are cutting down trees because of the want and demand for timber and other types of wood to build houses and buildings.

  • Where and when did deforestation originate?
We believe that deforestation originated in Japan around about 1650 because japan has the least amount of trees now, they have a lot of pollution and the pollution could have started by machines cutting the trees down and not replanting them.

  • Which countries have the biggest impact on deforestation?
We believe that Japan and the Amazon has the biggest impact on deforestation because japan has very little trees left and the Amazon forests are getting smaller each day.

  • How much of NZ land is forestry?
We believe that 40% of NZ is forestry because we don't have much of a problem with deforestation in New Zealand.

  • What parts of the world are largely affected by deforestation?(show in a pie graph)
We believe that the continents largely effected by deforestation are 50% Asia because there are not many trees there,19% Australasia because it is pretty dry there, 19% North and South America because it is mostly city and 12% Africa because it is very dry there.

Our synthesis question is:
  • Why do you think people are not replanting trees?
We believe that people are not replanting trees because people can't be bothered to replant them and it is much cheaper just to leave the land and not do anything to it and also the land might be needed to build house or buildings.

Our application question:
  • Illustrate what the world would look like if deforestation was not stopped?
We believe that the world would look brown, dusty and empty if deforestation isn't stopped because there world would have no trees and we wouldn't be able to live.
Here is a picture of what we think the world would look like with no trees: http://listphobia.com/wp-content/uploads/062609_0749_10mostAlien1.jpg

Our analysis question:
  • How is deforestation similar to other uses of resources?
We believe that deforestation is similar to transport because cars use a lot of pollution and so does deforestation and cars are machines and they use machines to help us cut down trees and transport them to their destination.

Our evaluation question:
  • Rank deforestation against other (enviromental issues) (give thought reasons) natural use of resources.(1 being bad 5 being good.)
ISSUE
THOUGHT AND REASON
RANK
DEFORESTATION
We believe that deforestation is the worst because cutting down trees includes energy and destinction of animals.
1
CORAL BLEACHING
We believe that coral bleaching the best out of all the options because the people who bleach the coral aren't doing much.
5
RISING SEA LEVELS
We believe that rising sea levels is second because in all the ice-caps melt then we will all drown.
2
FARMING
We believe that farming is third because we use machines which uses gas and the methane from the cows is bad for the atmosphere.
3
ENERGY
We believe that energy is the 4th worst because when we waste energy we waste money and it is not good for the atmosphare or ozone layer.
4
